Over the mid-year school holidays, a group of students from two schools in the Villiersdorp farming region participated in the SASWC Learn to Sail Level 2 Camp with Theewater Sailing Academy at Theewater Sports Club.
The event was held in the Overberg Region, organised by the Overberg Sailing Federation and hosted by Theewater Sports Club, from 19 to 22 April.
An entry of 130 boats made this a great event, with entries from Gauteng, Mossel Bay, George and Knysna. We were also hosting the young sailors from Qingdao, sailing Optimists.
With the dam levels at a healthy 40% for this time of the year, we are bringing back the annual TSC 9 Hour Challenge. Participants can expect some interesting weather conditions as racing will start at 9am and finish at 6pm which should allow for every possible variation that Theewaterskloof can offer.
The Overberg Sailing Federation have been awarded the 2019 Western Cape Dinghy Sailing Champs. This years event will be held at Theewater Sports Club over Easter Weekend, 19th to 22nd April. Although this prestigious event is still some two and a half months away, the organising committee is already hard at work!
The new year is off to a good start. Our dam level is looking good and the club is buzzing.
Ahoy All, After a bit of a slow start, our inaugural Around the World Challenge is gathering speed and distance around the world. All the rules and impressive “Club Credit” prizes (Total R5,000) are available on the locked glass notice board in the Afdak.
It has been a busy start to the season for the club as we re-introduced the club sailing and angling championships. Once a month we welcome members to race and compete in these disciplines in order to gain an overall position on the club scoreboard. At the end of the season we will announce the winners and award club trophies to those who compete. The month of October delivered some incredible conditions for both sailing and angling.
Get into gear, because this is going to be fun! At our opening cruise I introduced an around the world challenge that is happening at TSC. This is not an official race and the aim is to get club members back on the water with a bunch of awesome prizes to incentivize you!
With winds reaching 50 knots and up to 22 mm of rain predicted, the Opening Cruise held at TSC on the 25th of August was unfortunately limited to indoor activities.
